One of the greatest luxuries students have in design schools is access to workshops and some very fun tools including laser cutters, 3D printers, and CNC routers. At the Department of Architectural Science, there is a special dimension to this as materials are effectively free. Yes, unlike other programs that suffer from financial "issues", the Department has a transparent policy on materials where students' fees cover materials ranging from acrylic and veneers to sheets of plywood and MDF. This is a blessing to students.
UNFORTUNATELY some students have become spoiled, lazy, selfish, or simply foolish and have abused the capacity of the workshop supplies. Currently the administration and faculty are discussing ways to ensure students do not hoard, waste, or inefficiently use the resources available to them. Remember that there are underprivileged students at pathetic institutions that cannot supply its students with materials let alone the portfolio of products available in the architecture workshop at Ryerson University.
Things like this should not happen in the subsequent deadlines...
